About Ma Bagalamukhi
Ma Bagalamukhi is the eighth Mahavidya within the Tantric tradition of the Das Mahavidyas. She is also part of the Sri Kula tradition. Her name originates from the Sanskrit root Valga, meaning to curb or restrain, which directly reflects Her core function — the ability to immobilise or control negative forces.
She is widely known as Pitambara Devi, identified by the prominent use of yellow in Her iconography and worship. Her form, where She grasps the tongue of a demon named Madanasur, represents the control of harmful speech and expression.
This symbolism extends beyond physical enemies to include internal disturbances in a Sadhak, such as impulsive reactions and uncontrolled thoughts.

Her Sadhana is traditionally associated with very specific outcomes:
Neutralising opposition and hostile forces
Gaining victory in disputes, including legal and competitive situations
Attaining Vak Siddhi (mastery over speech and expression)
Unlike some other forms, which symbolise prosperity or liberation, Ma Bagalamukhi symbolises intervention and control, making Her worship especially powerful in situations requiring decisive action.
The Rudra Yamal Tantra associates Her with the principle of Stambhan - to instantly arrest opposing forces:
stambhayet sarva-duṣṭānāṃ vācaṃ mukhaṃ padaṃ tathā ।
jihvāṃ kīlayate devī bagalā-parameśvarī ॥"The Goddess Bagala immobilises the speech, mouth, and movement of all hostile forces; She nails the tongue itself."
The Story of Her Emergence
Her emergence is traced to the Maha Pralay (Great Deluge) at the end of Krita Yug (Satya Yug) — a period of severe cosmic disturbance. A powerful storm threatened all of creation, prompting Lord Vishnu, the Sustainer of the Universe, to undertake intense penance for the Divine Mother at a holy turmeric lake, called Haridra Sarovar. In response, the Mother Goddess decided to stabilise the situation and bring the destructive forces under control.
Following this, She emerged from the turmeric lake as a radiant yellow Devi — Ma Bagalamukhi. Sublime, radiant rays rose from Her form and the lake, spreading in all directions, quelling the storm, and restoring balance to the Universe. These rays eventually became the divine celestial weapon, Brahmastra.
This emergence is described as occurring at night, symbolising the stilling of chaos at its peak. Because She emerged from the turmeric water, Ma is also known as Pitambari - She Who Is Yellow - and is typically worshipped with yellow offerings.
The context of Her appearance is critical — She emerged at the height of disorder. This establishes Her as a force that doesn’t merely protect but actively halts and neutralises disturbance at its source.
Within a Sadhak, Her ability to bring stillness to chaos symbolises how She stills the restless mind and brings the Sadhak closer to realising the Divine.
The Significance of Bagalamukhi Prakatya Divas
Vaishakh Shukla Ashtami is considered a highly potent period for invoking Ma Bagalamukhi’s energy. On this day, Her influence is believed to be more accessible, particularly for practices related to control, protection, and stabilisation in life.

The significance of this Tithi operates on two levels.
Externally, it is associated with overcoming opposition, resolving conflicts, and gaining an upper hand in challenging situations.
Internally, it represents the ability to pause and regulate mental turbulence, especially in moments of stress or agitation.
This means that Ma can not only be worshipped by Tantra Sadhaks but also by those seeking practical clarity and mastery in their daily lives.
Worshipping Her in the Secret Shrine of Tantra Sadhana App
Tantra Sadhana App by Himalayan monk, Om Swami, offers a free and ad-free virtual journey to awaken each of the Das Mahavidyas through the Tantric path of Divyachar (mental worship).
Each Mahavidya, starting from Ma Kali and ending with Ma Kamalatmika, has a separate 3D world, which a Sadhak can navigate to unlock and perform Her Tantric Mantra Jap, Yagna and special Tantra Sadhana for specified periods.
The seeker is guided, step-by-step, through each ritual. Consecrated and awakened by Om Swami, the mantras are directly from the scriptural texts.
This makes the app a perfect gateway for not just the experienced initiates but the beginner-level seekers who don’t have a personal Guru but wish to worship the Das Mahavidyas of Tantra.
Secret Shrine
The Secret Shrine appears in the Mahavidya realm on the app on special occasions and provides an impactful and accessible way to worship individual Mahavidyas, especially for Sadhaks using the app who haven’t unlocked Her world in their main Das Mahavidya journey.
On this day of Bagalamukhi Jayanti, the Secret Shrine for Ma Bagalamukhi will open for Sadhaks to chant Her awakened Dhyan Shlok and Tantric Mantra.
May Ma’s Grace stabilise your life and protect you from negative forces on your spiritual journey ahead.
